Does the New Glass Need Any Special Care?

New window glass is quite attractive. It is easy to see through because of its clarity. It is this clarity that lets in adequate light.

New window glass may also have a special coating over it to ensure that light and not heat comes through the glass, which can help it obtain Energy Star certification. However, this coating may mean you want to take care when cleaning your new window glass.

What is the Best Practice for Cleaning Windows?

Mild dish soap and water is the best solution that you can use when cleaning your new glass. This solution is non-abrasive, so it won't cause any scratching. Once you clean the windows, you then rinse the window off, and use a soft cloth to dry it. You definitely don't want to use paper towels or anything that could carry debris that would scratch the glass in any way, even superficially.

Even while cleaning with soap and water, try using a sponge. A sponge is soft and you definitely want to use a soft cloth on the glass at all times. This ensures its longevity

What Products Not to Use

There are certain products that you don't want to use when cleaning windows. You don't want to use petroleum-based cleansers because they can deteriorate glass. If the glass is heavily soiled, you don't want to use a water hose at high pressure or use sharp objects to scrape away debris. High pressure water can break the glass due to the pressure. Sharp objects can scratch the glass.

All-in-all, with the proper glass care, you can make sure you don't have to prematurely replace the glass in your windows or have to replace the windows themselves due to bad cleaning practices or cleaning products not meant for your particular type of glass.
